Welcome to the website of the Department of Economics at The Ohio State University. As you will see in reviewing the site, our department is dedicated to excellence in both teaching and research. Our faculty specializations are well-balanced among the fields of macroeconomics, microeconomics, and econometrics. Our faculty are also particularly productive in research.
To us, excellence in teaching means offering to all students the opportunity to realize their full potential for learning Economics. Additionally, we strive to offer an enhanced learning experience to the most capable and motivated students. We have upgraded both our graduate program and undergraduate program, and we continue to look for ways to enhance and improve the student experience. In addition to Ph.D. students in economics, we teach graduate students from many other units at OSU, including Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics, the Fisher College of Business, and City and Regional Planning. We teach a large and ever-rising number of undergraduates, reflecting the exceptional quality of our undergraduate program and a national trend in increased undergraduate enrollment in economics.
Excellence in research means attaining national and international recognition as evidenced by comparative national rankings, the amount of high-quality published scholarly research, citation counts, external funding, and awards and honors. We recently ranked 11th among U.S. public-university departments in publications in eight "blue-ribbon" journals. In econometrics publications, we ranked 22nd among 200 institutions worldwide. In applied econometrics, one of our specialties, we ranked 16th among 150 institutions worldwide and 12th in publications in the profession's flagship journal, American Economic Review. We have many world class scholars among our faculty. For information on faculty members, please click on the Link to Our Faculty Profile/Vita here or at the end of this message.
OSU's central administration agrees that its Economics Department is strong and warrants additional investment: We are one of thirteen units at the university to receive ongoing selective investment funding. As a result, the Department has been actively recruiting and retaining top-notch faculty. With this targeted investment, we are poised to advance well into the top echelon of public universities and into the higher ranks of all universities.
Again, welcome to the OSU Department of Economics Website!
